Well
I won't lie, I felt a little 'Patriotic' as I woke up this morning,
even though I am not that kind of a person. But this feeling died the
moment I logged in to my Facebook, there I see memes about the U.S.
President Barack Obama, how he is chewing gum while watching the R-Day
parade Obama chewing Gum during the R-day Parade!!!. Come
on guys, give the man a break, he's a President for God Sake. He is
surely allowed to eat 'Gum', and honestly I don't see any problems that
anyone should have with that, but there is something I have a problem
with and it is this post Funny Photoshop Pictures of Obama. Obama
didn't have time to travel India, so they made their own version of his
travel in India, when you see the post for your self you will
understand why I have a problem with this post. It might be funny but
it's not funny for the U.S. President and it's not funny for the image
of this country.
Despite of being honored and proud that the U.S. President is in our country celebrating with us one of the most prestigious days of our country, we are angry at him for eating Gum. Chewing gum isn't considered as an act of disgrace, as far as I know.
I really doubt that posting this kind of stuff will help improve our image in front of any nation! People
are criticizing the Indian Govt. for installing 15,000 cctv cameras
for the U.S. President and not doing it when there were so many cases of
rape in the capital, can't you people be just glad that it was done, it
might have taken some time but it's finally done. By any means I am not
implying that the Indian Govt. shouldn't have installed cctv cameras
for the protection of women, or all these incidents of rape were
insignificant, but it's better late than never. Instead of posting about
how good the R-Day parade was these people just want to make fun of
these petty issues.
People are flooding Facebook and other social networking sites about how they feel patriotic today, I can bet that 80% of them are just posting it just for the sake of doing it, many of these out there don't even know the meaning of Republic and the rest are just doing it to get likes on their statuses. It might not be a good thing but I am proud that at least we are doing even if it is just for the sake of doing.
Enough with the 'Obama Talk'. As turns out I can really talk, and i mean 'a lot'. So when I woke up this morning instead of hearing any of the patriotic songs I hear my friend talking on the phone, and man this guy just can't shut up. He was just babbling on and on and I just wanted to fall asleep again but it was impossible with him just not shutting up. He's a nice guy but with all the calls he gets just blows my mind, I mean how can anyone talk so much. So I get up and the first thing I do is turn on my laptop, I don't know why but I just love my laptop. I know it sounds creepy but I do. So after waking up it's the usual routine on a holiday, after having breakfast sleep again and wake up just 5 minutes before the lunch is about to end and head to the mess, have lunch and sit in your blankets for the rest of the day.
My friend had gone to Chandigarh, he came back today, me and my room mate both went to receive him and on the way I couldn't even find a single flag or a hoarding that said Happy Republic Day, but as compared to other holidays celebrated here, you will find a lot of people wishing you a Happy New Year or a happy Diwali but when it comes to these kind of holidays, one rarely bothers, for us these days are nothing more than holidays. We might not know the significance of the day but we are sure about the thing that it is a holiday. Maybe we don't think it's worth to know the significance, it might be a waste of our 'precious' time. There is this side of India too which most of the people are not aware of.
I am not criticizing anyone but I am asking people to accept that this kind of India exists side by side with us, which they have a hard time doing. Neither I am saying that I am not a part of that India, i certainly am but I want other of my fellow Indians to accept this too.
In all, this is almost the same routine as the rest of the days except on the other days I have to attend lectures and on this day I was amazed at how the people fail to notice the presence of another President, and that too an influential and powerful one, in this country, instead they chose to take him on a 'Photoshopped visit of India' and noticed how he was chewing gum. So there was nothing special about the Republic day for me, it was just another day in my life. Maybe i felt a little patriotic as I mentioned above, but that too didn't last longer. I know that doesn't sound anything like a person who is enthusiastic about his country being a Republic. Well I am just another one of the many Indians that share this same kind of an outlook.
I am a person who isn't that much interested in taking pride that my country is a Republic but I am surely proud to be a part of it. I don't care what flaws my country has, we will get through it and I am proud to be a part of this great nation that has managed to stand firm in front of the world through the test of time. And at last
